In these unprecedented times, we first and foremost want to say that we hope that every member of our community is healthy and staying well. Our lives have all been upended in the last month, and the effects will last quite a bit longer. Our most important priorities right now are our families and our well-being.
That being said, on behalf of the Board, I wanted to give a quick update regarding ECYB.
As today marks what would have been Opening Day in MLB, it is very sad that we are not able to play baseball right now. With the announcements from the various school districts yesterday that schools will not open before May 1, as well as the current shelter-in-place order, ECYB will not resume any league activities before May 1. As we approach that date, we will have a better idea about whether we can play any baseball this season.
In the mean time, the Board is making various contingency plans for a shortened baseball season at some point. What I would like to know from you is whether or not you and your family would be interested and available to extend our ECYB season beyond our currently scheduled end date of May 31 (assuming, of course, that the prevailing wisdom is that it is healthy to do so).
We will email families a survey to gauge interest and availability.
The Board is just beginning to imagine what a league season would look like, but we would love to know what our families would be interested in.
In the meantime, we will continue to send out baseball videos so your kids have some things to work on (or think about) during this isolating time.
Regarding refunds, we have received several requests, and we appreciate that this is a valid question. As of right now, we are hopeful that we will be able to hold at least part of our season. We are also calculating the costs that the league has already incurred, including insurance, field costs (El Cerrito is not currently refunding our permit dues), and other sunk costs. We will announce our refund policy by May 1.
Please feel free to email me with any questions, and I hope to see you all on a baseball field as soon as possible.
John
President, ECYB
